Trump Warns Iran: U.S. Could Target Oil, Power Infrastructure if Strait of Hormuz Remains Closed

U.S. President Donald Trump issued a stark warning to Iran on Monday, saying the United States could end its military presence in the region by “blowing up and completely obliterating” the country’s electric plants, oil wells, and key export facilities if a deal is not reached and the Strait of Hormuz is not reopened.

Trump made the statement in a post on Truth Social, describing ongoing discussions with what he called “a new, and more reasonable, regime” in Tehran. He stressed that while progress had been made, failure to comply could lead to targeted strikes on Iran’s energy infrastructure, including Kharg Island and potentially desalination plants, which he claimed the U.S. has “purposefully not yet touched.”

The warning follows remarks Trump made in an interview with the Financial Times, in which he suggested that seizing Iran’s oil could be a potential strategy, emphasizing that his “preference would be to take the oil” if necessary.

The comments sent oil markets higher, with Brent crude climbing above $116 per barrel on Monday amid growing concerns over potential escalation in the Persian Gulf.

Analysts have warned that any confrontation in the region could have significant geopolitical and economic repercussions, particularly for global energy supplies and maritime trade through the strategic Strait of Hormuz.
