UN Youth Affairs Chief Concludes Nigeria Visit, Strengthens Push for Youth-Centred Development
The Assistant Secretary-General for Youth Affairs of the United Nations, Felipe Paullier, has concluded a high-level visit to Nigeria, bringing together key stakeholders across government, institutions, and communities to advance youth-focused development.
During the visit, the UN envoy held strategic engagements with Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, as well as ministers and critical government institutions, including the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA).
The discussions centred on strengthening collaboration to promote peace, security, and sustainable development, with a strong emphasis on positioning young people at the heart of national and global priorities.
Paullier also interacted with youth groups and development partners, highlighting the importance of inclusive participation and empowering young people to take active roles in shaping policies and driving innovation.
The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC), alongside other UN agencies, reaffirmed its commitment to building on the outcomes of the visit by deepening partnerships, supporting Nigeria’s development agenda, and expanding opportunities for youth engagement.
The visit is seen as a significant step in reinforcing international cooperation and aligning efforts toward harnessing the potential of Nigeria’s youth population for long-term impact.
