A university lecturer has been handed over to the police following allegations that he demanded sexual favours from a married female student in exchange for approving her academic project.
The lecturer, identified as Dr. Nisa’i Gwadabe, is reportedly the Head of the Department of History and International Studies at Northwest University, Kano (formerly Yusuf Maitama Sule University) and also serves as a visiting lecturer at Mariam Abacha American Nigerian University (MAAUN).
According to accounts circulating on social media, the lecturer allegedly delayed the student’s project approval for about two years after she repeatedly rejected his alleged sexual advances.
The reports claimed that the student later informed her husband of the situation, after which they allegedly devised a plan to expose the lecturer.
It was alleged that the lecturer agreed to meet the student after Maghrib prayers at a designated location. However, upon his arrival, he reportedly encountered the woman’s husband and others, who allegedly assaulted him before handing him over to the police.
Videos circulating online purportedly show the lecturer being beaten before his arrest, although the authenticity of the footage has not been independently verified.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Northwest University, MAAUN, nor the Nigeria Police Force had issued an official statement on the incident or confirmed the allegations.
The case has generated widespread reactions on social media, with many calling for a thorough investigation and due process to establish the facts surrounding the allegations. Authorities are expected to investigate the matter and determine any criminal or disciplinary liability based on the outcome of their findings.
