The meeting coincided with the official announcement of Are’s posting to Washington, which was disclosed earlier in the day in a statement issued by the Presidency.
Nigeria’s delegation was led by the National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, and included top security chiefs and senior government officials. The United States delegation was headed by Allison Hooker, the US Under-Secretary of State.
Discussions at the meeting focused on security cooperation and diplomatic engagement following the CPC redesignation. Both sides reaffirmed their strategic commitment to deepening collaboration in the fight against banditry and terrorism, as well as strengthening Nigeria’s overall national security architecture.
Participants also reviewed existing security partnerships and explored avenues for enhanced intelligence sharing, capacity building, and coordinated responses to emerging threats.
The working group is expected to serve as a sustained platform for dialogue between both countries, as Nigeria and the United States seek to address mutual security concerns and reinforce long-standing bilateral relations.
