As part of activities marking his 5th Coronation Anniversary, the Royal Iwere Foundation, the humanitarian arm of the Warri Kingdom Monarchy, has convened the Itsekiri Development Forum, bringing together stakeholders to explore practical pathways for sustainable economic and social development in Warri Kingdom.
Held under the theme, “Beyond Oil: Investing in the Future of Warri Kingdom,” the forum provided a strategic platform for dialogue, knowledge-sharing and collective action among traditional leaders, thought leaders, development partners, investors and members of the global Itsekiri community under the auspices of Itsekiri Global HomeComing.
Discussions at the forum focused on opportunities beyond the oil economy, including investment, entrepreneurship, human capital development, innovation and sustainable economic growth.
Two major initiatives were unveiled during the event.
The first was the official launch of the IamItsekiri mobile application, described as a digital village designed to connect Itsekiris at home and across the world, while also providing a platform for friends and supporters of the Itsekiri people to engage, collaborate and strengthen shared identity.
The forum also witnessed the presentation of the Warri Kingdom Investment & Development Report, a forward-looking document highlighting investment opportunities and potential areas for strategic partnerships and development interventions across the Kingdom.
The report is expected to serve as a roadmap for attracting investments, stimulating local enterprise and unlocking economic opportunities capable of contributing to the long-term prosperity of Warri Kingdom.
The well-attended gathering also provided an opportunity for stakeholders to examine how the Kingdom can diversify its economy and reduce dependence on traditional sources of revenue by investing in its people, businesses, infrastructure and emerging sectors.
In his address, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III, the Olu of Warri, renewed his call for investors, development partners and other stakeholders who share the vision of a prosperous Warri Kingdom to join hands with the Palace in unlocking the vast opportunities within the Kingdom.
He emphasised the need to build a diversified, resilient and inclusive economy capable of creating jobs, empowering young people, supporting businesses and improving the livelihoods of communities across Warri Kingdom.
The initiative forms part of the Palace’s broader vision of positioning Warri Kingdom for sustainable development while strengthening connections among the Itsekiri people globally.
The forum ultimately reinforced a shared commitment to building a future in which investment, innovation, human capital and unity become key drivers of prosperity for Warri Kingdom and future generations.
