We’re Getting Rid of Illegal Arms, Commander OPSH Tells Plateau Stakeholders (Photos)

Major General AE Abubakar, Commander Special Task Force Operation SAFE HAVEN (OPSH) and General Officer Commanding 3 Division Nigerian Army (NA), has stated that Operation SAFE HAVEN is actively pursuing illegal arms, ammunition, and weapons across its Joint Operation Area of Plateau, Bauchi, and Kaduna States.

The commander announced this on Tuesday at a stakeholders’ meeting in Mangu, Plateau State.

The Commander OPSH/GOC spoke to stakeholders at the Miskhagam Mwaghavul-organized event and expressed his confidence that Mangu Local Government Area and Plateau State as a whole would start to experience lasting peace as a result of the meeting.

He insisted that in order to break the cycle of violence in Mangu LGA, forgiveness was essential.
General Abubakar stated that in order to end the crisis in society, the proper authorities must adequately address the causes of conflict.

He urged the populace to respect the traditional institution, which is the keeper of peace, while repeating the direction from the Chiefs of Defence and Army Staff that everything legal must be done to stop the cycle of violence in Mangu LGA.

He emphasised that the murder of the Ardo of Panyam was a crime committed by a small group of people who would shortly face punishment.

Earlier The Emir of Wase, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr) Muhammadu Sambo Haruna, Miskhagam Mwaghavul, His Royal Highness Da John Hirse, and Chairman of the Mangu LGA Transition Committee, Honourable Markus Artu, all made remarks in their own right about the meeting’s purpose, which was to offer solutions to problems facing the local government and enlist everyone’s support for the peace-building initiative being undertaken by the appropriate authorities.

They praised Commander OPSH/GOC for his demonstrable efforts and dedication to fostering peace in the State.

They urged the populace to give peace a chance and learn to live with one another while highlighting the value of discourse in conflict resolution.

In his vote of gratitude, Professor Sonni Tyoden, the former deputy governor of Plateau State, commended the event’s organisers for setting up a forum that allowed all parties concerned to voice their complaints and determine a course of action for resolving all outstanding concerns.

He added that the gathering was an indication that local traditional leaders were the communities’ lights.

Some of the dignitaries present at the meeting include; former Deputy Governor of Plateau State, Professor Sonni Tyoden, Emir of Wase, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr) Muhammadu Sambo Haruna, Miskhagam Mwaghavul, His Royal Highness Da John Hirse, Chairman Mangu LGA Transition Committee, Honorable Markus Artu, Member Representing Mangu South in the Plateau State House of Assembly and Chief Whip, Honorable Bala Fwangje. Others include Chairman Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association Mangu LGA, Chairman Mwaghavul Development Association, Chairman Christian Association of Nigeria Mangu LGA amongst others.

The meeting’s highlights included remarks by dignitaries, involvement from fulani and mangu stakeholders, and group photos.
