As the Country is celebrating 2026 Democracy Day on Friday, the third Republic National Assembly members who are from Osun State once again appealed to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to honour their long awaiting request.

This appeal was made in a Press Statement issued and made available to newsmen by the Convener of the Group, Rt.Hon. John Fasogbon from Ife Federal Constituency, on behalf of the third Republic National Assembly members.

In the statement, they said, “The mother of democracy in Nigeria is the “Third Republic” led by Chief Monshood Kasimawo Olawale, MKO Abiola, that gave lasting democracy in Nigeria which everyone are enjoying today and being celebrated as June 12, but unfortunately the actors are wallowing in abject poverty.

“We all contested, won our elections even the election was declared freest one, but unfortunately, after swore-in, we were sack by Military juntas then without any benefits.

“The last President Buhari led administration remembered only the Executives but the Legislators were treated like a dog that killed an animal but it’s owner collected the animal from the dog with a beating as they say according to Mariam Webster, “What is good for the goose, is equally good for the gender.

“We are now appealing to our President to consider us, even if it is the intestines of the animal killed by the dog as many have died without any benefit while the family is wrangling in abject poverty while we that still alive, we live by God’s Grace

“Out of the then 23 legislatures from Osun State, about 11 members who are victims of democracy have died and their immediate families are currently wallowing in abject poverty while the remaining 12 who are still alive are also suffering in silence unattended to.

“Today is being celebrated with the mother of the day dying in anguish penury.

“In the spirit of National reconciliation, we plea to this administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to consider us for our severance allowance and other benefits”.
