Nigerian Army lays General Onyeoku to rest in Abuja

In military tradition, the Nigerian Army buried former Defence Spokesman Major General Bernard Onyeuko in the National Military Cemetery in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.

Major General Onyeoku’s death on August 26, just a few weeks after his retirement, stunned many who couldn’t believe that a man with such a loving and tender heart had died.

General Christopher Musa, Chief of Defence Staff, praised the late Barnard Onyeuko as a brilliant guy who spent his life like a saint sent from heaven in a speech at the Military Cemetery.

The Defence Chief consoled the officer’s family and promised that the Armed Forces of Nigeria will be there for his family and strive to keep the peace he fought for.

General Musa, who is a coursemate of the deceased described as a dedicated military officer.

The Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja equally promised the family that the Nigerian Army would stand by them in the moment of grief.

He said the death of the Senior Officer calls for moments of reflection and an opportunity to strengthen friendship and comradeship amongst the military personnel.

General Lagbaja pointed out that he left fine footprints in the Nigerian army after serving in different capacities.

The Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Adm. Emmanuel Ogalla, represented by the Chief of Administration (Navy), Rear Admiral Kennedy Ezete, extended the condolences of the Nigerian Navy to the Nigerian Army and the family of the deceased.

Late Major General Bernard Onyeuko was a member of the 38 Regular Course of the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA). Who served in the capacity of the Director of Procurement at the Defence Headquarters Abuja.

In a biography read by a coursemate at the funeral, General Onyeuko was of the Ordnance Corps and served in various capacities in the Nigerian army in Kaduna, Maiduguri, Enugu, Jos, Lagos and Abuja.

He was also part of the ECOMOG and United Nations Peacekeeping Operation in Morocco.
