Relentless Airstrikes Target Terrorist Hideouts in Borno

Airstrikes against identified terrorist hideouts and enclaves in Borno State, Northeast Nigeria, persisted throughout the weekend, demonstrating a relentless commitment to eliminating threats in the region.
A statement by Air Commodore Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information of the Nigerian Air Force on Monday, noted that this unwavering action followed intelligence provided by the Land Component of Operation Hadin Kai (OPHK) on October 29, 2023.
According to the statement, the intelligence indicated the presence of approximately 22 terrorists travelling in a gun truck and two motorcycles near Marte. In response, NAF aircraft from the Air Component of OPHK were immediately dispatched to intercept the group. After thorough surveillance, the terrorists were located approximately 22 kilometres west of Marte, heading north towards Munguno.
The statement added that the pursuit continued for approximately 70 minutes until the terrorists halted beneath a tree, presumably to refuel or conceal their movements. At this point, the targets were engaged, resulting in a substantial explosion that engulfed the area. The gun truck and motorcycles were destroyed, and no subsequent signs of movement were observed.

According to Gabkwet, the intensity of the explosion strongly suggests that the location where the terrorists were hiding may have served as a logistics base, or their vehicle was transporting weapons or explosive devices.
The terrorists’ frequent attempts to evade detection and their vulnerability in the face of the Land and Air Components of Operation Hadin Kai illustrate their inability to hold ground and pose significant threats to military installations or easily target civilians. Their actions continue to highlight their desperation and diminished capacity.
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State had earlier emphasized the significant improvement in the state’s security situation, citing a more than 85% increase in security and the revival of economic activities. The Governor lauded the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies for their dedication to this progress, stating, “As the Chief Security Officer of Borno State, we are doing well in terms of security as there has been a serious improvement in our security situation, and I want to commend the Service Chiefs for their efforts.”
These developments underscore the ongoing commitment to enhancing security in Borno State and the region as a whole.
