Troops’ welfare crucial aspect of command, GOC tells newly decorated officers

Major General Jamal Abdussalam, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 6 Division, Nigerian Army/Land Component Commander, Joint Task Force, South-South, Operation DELTA SAFE, has stressed that the welfare of the troops is a crucial aspect of command.

He said this at the Port Harcourt Barracks investiture of three recently promoted senior officers who were awarded with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel.

During his speech, the General of the Nigerian Army (GOC) reaffirmed that achieving the rank of Lieutenant Colonel is crucial for officers as it gives them the chance to advance to the position of Commanding Officer.

He went on to say that officers will gain experiences from this position that they will carry with them throughout their NA careers.

Major General Abdussalam urged the newly decorated officers to keep the core values of the NA as a guiding principle to succeed in their careers.

He further stressed that selfless service and loyalty are a must for every officer, while discipline is the bedrock the NA is built upon. He further stated that discipline breeds courage, while integrity remains an indispensable ingredient for all officers.

He congratulated them for their well-deserved elevation to the enviable rank of Lieutenant Colonels in the NA and urged them to continue to be professionals so that they can project the good image of the NA wherever they find themselves.

He reminded them to accord the desired attention to the welfare of troops placed under them, as this has huge implications on the way officers and men discharge their responsibilities.

In his vote of thanks, Lieutenant Colonel Umar Bature, speaking on behalf of the recently promoted senior officers, thanked Almighty God, the Chief of Army Staff, and the GOC for the opportunity and steadfast support that enabled them to accomplish this achievement in the NA.

He swore unwavering allegiance to the Federal Republic of Nigeria’s Constitution as well as to His Excellency, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the President and Commander-in-Chief.

He pledged that they would keep up their committed service to the country in whatever role they could find themselves in.

The newly decorated senior officers are Lt Cols Umar Bature, Josehat Ogor, and Buda Magaji, all of the 6 Division, Nigerian Army. The occasion was attended by family members, friends, and well-wishers.
