Appeal Court Judgement: Police raise alarm over plans to incite violence in Kano

By Matthew Atungwu

The Kano State Police Command has notified the public about the intentions of certain political party members to incite violence within the state.

As to the statement made by SP Abdullahi Kiyawa, the Public Relations Officer of the command, the organizations want to demonstrate against the decision made by the Appeal Court regarding the state’s governorship election.

Nonetheless, he said that the command had implemented the necessary security measures to stop hostilities from rising to the point where law and order would collapse.

“It is on this note that the police command issue this warning to residents of the state to be extra careful as whoever intends to conduct any protest or procession should do so in accordance with the provisions of the law,” Kiyawa said.

He stated that Usaini Gumel, the Commissioner of Police, had asked the populace to maintain their composure and refrain from any kind of unapproved assembly, demonstration, or parade that would incite violence.

According to the spokesman, combined security teams have been sent to key areas to protect the state’s peace and order.

“Whoever attempts to disrupt the peace in the state will be arrested and made to face the wrath of the law,” he added and urged residents to report any suspicious movement, persons, or items to security agents for prompt response.
