In media parley held on Friday, December 15, Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa, confronted and dispelled rumours surrounding his supposed demise. Expressing gratitude for the gathered media representatives, he underscored the necessity of addressing this misinformation and providing clarity on the matter.

Addressing the issue head-on, General Musa stated, “the false report caused me a lot of concerns, not because of the erroneous claim itself, but because of the motives behind it. All I could say at this moment is that there is need for responsible journalism. There is need for the media to uphold the truth, and not peddle misinformation for whatever reasons.”

Emphasising the Defense Forces’ commitment to an open-door policy, General Musa encouraged the media to promptly seek clarification on critical matters. He expressed disappointment in the unprofessional handling of the situation, particularly noting that he was live on TV at the National Assembly on the same day the false reports circulated.

The Chief of Defense Staff called for a concerted effort to avoid such incidents in the future, stressing the importance of accuracy and responsibility in reporting. He acknowledged the potential for conflicts arising from misinformation and urged the media to align with principles of transparency and truthfulness.

It will be recalled that the rumour of the CDS went viral on the social media on November 14, throwing the national into mourning, until the rumour was dispelled, and the story was recalled by the online media platform that published it.
