In a heartening display of international solidarity, the Qatari government has pledged support for over 1,000 orphans affected by the Boko Haram insurgency in Borno State.
During a meeting at the Government House in Maiduguri, the Qatari Ambassador to Nigeria, Dr. Ali Bn Ghanem Al-Hajari, announced the forthcoming assistance, emphasising the importance of providing essential aid to vulnerable children.
Amidst the solemn backdrop of the conflict’s aftermath, Ambassador Ghanem also laid the foundation stone for a new primary school in Maiduguri. This gesture underscores Qatar’s commitment to fostering educational opportunities and rebuilding communities devastated by violence.
Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, a steadfast advocate for the welfare of his people, stood shoulder to shoulder with Ambassador Ghanem as they laid the cornerstone for the school. Governor Zulum expressed profound gratitude to the Qatari Government for their unwavering support, assuring them of Borno’s dedication to creating a conducive environment for progress and healing.
This collaborative effort builds upon previous initiatives, including the ongoing construction of an orphanage center by the Qatar Charity Organization, a project inaugurated earlier this year by Governor Zulum. The visit of Ambassador Ghanem, accompanied by Mr. Abdullah Hilal Alnuimi and Qatar Charity’s Country Director, Hamdi Abdou, symbolises a beacon of hope amidst adversity, reaffirming the power of compassion and cooperation in rebuilding shattered lives.
