President Bola Tinubu of Nigeria has underscored Nigeria’s potential to drive Europe’s clean energy future through its high-grade lithium deposits, during a strategic meeting with Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte at The Catshuis in The Hague.

Emphasising Nigeria’s vast opportunities across multiple sectors, President Tinubu outlined ongoing reforms aimed at bolstering the investment climate. He highlighted the significant potential for value addition, particularly in solid minerals, including high-grade lithium deposits crucial for clean energy production.

President Tinubu emphasised Nigeria’s youthful population, noting that it presents both a substantial workforce and market for Dutch and international investors. “It is important to provide opportunities for Nigerian youth to thrive domestically, thereby mitigating irregular migration and fostering lawful migration of skilled individuals to benefit both Nigeria and Europe.”

Asserting his confidence in the Nigerian people, President Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to making decisions that serve their long-term interests, despite short-term challenges. He highlighted Nigeria’s resilient economic performance, citing the Nigerian Naira as one of the world’s best-performing currencies, and welcomed Dutch investments totaling $250 million, including a significant investment in waste-to-wealth infrastructure in Lagos State.

In response, Prime Minister Rutte commended President Tinubu’s economic reforms, which have bolstered confidence in the Nigerian economy among international investors. He praised Nigeria’s commitment to democratic governance and applauded President Tinubu’s decisive leadership in implementing crucial reforms, noting their positive impact on development.
