Civil Service Screening: Half of Shortlisted Directors Fail Exam as Race for Top Positions Tightens

By Matthew Eloyi

In a significant shake-up, 19 out of 38 directors seeking permanent secretary roles in the Federal Civil Service failed the initial qualifying examination.

The exam, held on Monday, November 11, 2024, is part of a rigorous selection process initiated by the Office of the Head of Civil Service of the Federation (OHCSF) to fill vacancies in eight states.

A memo signed by Dr. Emmanuel Meribole on behalf of the examination committee, and published on Tuesday, detailed the outcome.

Eno Olotu, Director of Press at OHCSF, commented on the process: “Of the 38 eligible directors who sat for the exam, 19 have passed the first stage and will move on to the second stage, which will assess their competency in using Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in government operations on Wednesday, November 13, 2024.”

According to Olotu, the selection process is thorough and includes three stages aimed at ensuring only the most qualified candidates advance.

The final stage, set for Friday, November 15, 2024, will see the remaining candidates face a panel of high-ranking civil servants and private sector representatives.
