The appointment follows Heirs Energies’ recent $496 million acquisition of a 20.07 percent stake in Seplat, further deepening African participation in one of Nigeria’s most strategic industries.

In a statement, Seplat said Elumelu’s extensive experience as an investor, entrepreneur, and philanthropist will support the company’s long-term growth strategy as it navigates Nigeria’s evolving energy landscape.

Elumelu is the Chairman of Heirs Holdings, United Bank for Africa (UBA) Plc, Transcorp Group, and the Tony Elumelu Foundation (TEF), with decades of experience driving enterprise development and wealth creation across Africa.

Industry analysts say his entry into Seplat’s boardroom marks a significant milestone in the push for greater African ownership and leadership in the energy sector, while reinforcing Seplat’s role in Nigeria’s oil, gas, and power supply value chain.

The development is expected to strengthen Seplat’s strategic direction and investor confidence as the company expands its footprint in upstream energy and domestic gas production.
