Researchers reported that concentrations above 200 micrograms per millilitre eliminated nearly all cancer cells in the laboratory setting. The findings suggest that certain natural plant compounds may interfere with cancer cell growth and survival at the cellular level.
Scientists involved in the research cautioned that the results are currently limited to in-vitro (laboratory) experiments and have not yet been tested in human clinical trials. They stressed that further studies are necessary to determine safety, proper dosage, and effectiveness in patients.
The discovery adds to growing scientific interest in plant-based compounds as potential complementary tools in oncology research. While peppermint has long been associated with digestive relief and traditional remedies, experts say its deeper medicinal properties require careful investigation before any medical application can be considered.
Researchers noted that peer-reviewed laboratory cancer cell studies on essential oil compounds continue to expand, supporting ongoing exploration in oncology research centres worldwide.
