Defence Minister Launches Programme to Support Military Officers’ Transition to Civilian Life

The Minister of Defence, Christopher Gwabin Musa, has flagged off the Senior Executive Career Transition Programme (SECTP), an initiative of the Nigerian Army implemented through the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre.

The programme, scheduled to run from March 22 to April 4, 2026, is designed to equip senior officers of the Armed Forces of Nigeria with the knowledge and skills required for a smooth transition to civilian life after active service.

According to the minister, the residential course will feature modules on retirement planning, financial management, career reinvention, and the psychological aspects of post-service adjustment. It will also include corporate immersion engagements, venture support initiatives, and mentorship sessions led by accomplished retired senior officers.

Speaking at the event, Musa described the initiative as a key component of the Federal Government’s commitment to personnel welfare and human capital development within the military.

He noted that military leadership must go beyond active service by ensuring personnel are adequately prepared for life after retirement and can continue to contribute meaningfully to national development.

The minister added that the SECTP represents a structured and proactive approach to safeguarding the dignity, stability, and well-being of senior officers, while also strengthening collaboration across the Armed Forces.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to policies and programmes that recognise the sacrifices of military personnel and enhance the overall effectiveness of Nigeria’s defence institutions.
