SAZU set to confer degrees on 12,256 graduates

The Vice-Chancellor of Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Gadau, Prof. Fatima Tahir, says the institution is set to graduate a total of 12,256 students during its 8th, 9th, and 10th combined convocation ceremony.

Tahir disclosed this during a pre-convocation press conference held on Friday at Gadau, Azare Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
She said the figure comprised 11,813 undergraduate and 443 postgraduate students across the 2022/2023, 2023/2024, and 2024/2025 academic sessions.
According to her, of the undergraduate graduands, 8,387, representing 71 per cent, are males, while 3,426, representing 29 per cent, are females.
She further explained that 216 graduands obtained First Class Honours, 3,438 earned Second Class Upper Division, while 5,563 graduated bagged Second Class Lower Division.
“Also, 2,353 graduands obtained Third Class Honours, while 243 earned Pass Degrees.
“10,702 of the graduates are regular students, while 1,111 are from part-time programmes,” she said.
On postgraduate studies, Tahir said 25 students would be awarded PhDs, 145 Academic Masters, 241 Professional Masters, and 32 Postgraduate Diplomas.
“The 2023/2024 academic session recorded the highest number of graduands with 5,240, followed by 2022/2023 with 4,064, and 2024/2025 with 2,509,” she said.
The vice chancellor stated that activities lined up for the convocation included a lecture to be delivered by Emeritus Prof. Abubakar Sani Sambo, a former Vice-Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), Bauchi.
She added that the lecture is titled: “Education, Security and Sustainable Development: The Role of Universities in Northern Nigeria.”
Tahir said the grand finale of the convocation would take place on March 28, at the university’s stadium, where degrees would be conferred on deserving graduands.
