The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has conducted an extensive inspection of major judicial infrastructure and urban renewal projects across Abuja, expressing satisfaction with the pace and quality of work.

The inspection tour covered the new Court of Appeal complex in Dakibiyu, Judges’ Quarters in Katampe, residential quarters for Heads of Courts in Asokoro, and the ongoing remodelling of the Abuja City Gate.

Addressing journalists after the visit, Wike said the Court of Appeal complex had reached its finishing stage and would likely be inaugurated as part of activities marking the third anniversary of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in office.

He added that the Judges’ Quarters—comprising 10 duplexes for the Federal High Court, 20 for the FCT High Court, and 10 for the Court of Appeal—are nearing completion and are expected to be delivered by the end of May.

The minister also disclosed that adjoining lands in Katampe have been acquired by the FCT Administration to enhance security and provide additional accommodation for the National Industrial Court.

Wike further inspected the exclusive residences for Heads of Courts in Asokoro, including those designated for the Chief Judge of the FCT, the President of the Court of Appeal, the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, and the President of the National Industrial Court. He said the high-profile residences are scheduled for completion by October 2026.

On the remodelling of the Abuja City Gate, Wike credited the initiative to the First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, noting that the redesigned structure will feature a water fountain symbolising the 36 states and the FCT. He said the project would enhance the city’s aesthetics and boost tourism potential.

“This will transform the landscape and create a landmark where visitors can take photographs. It is expected to be inaugurated during the President’s third year in office,” he said.

Responding to criticisms that providing housing for judicial officers could undermine judicial independence, Wike dismissed the claims as unfounded. He noted that the Federal Capital Development Authority has historically provided infrastructure for all arms of government, including the legislature and electoral bodies.

He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, stating that the FCT would remain focused on delivering projects that improve governance and urban appeal.
