By Matthew Eloyi

A former Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), Mike Ejiofor, has been re-elected as President of the Alumni Association of the National Institute for Security Studies (AANISS), reaffirming his leadership role in shaping Nigeria’s security discourse.

The announcement was made in a statement issued in Abuja by the association’s Publicity Secretary, Peter Iliya, following the group’s 2026 Annual General Meeting (AGM), where Ejiofor and other executives were returned to office.

The AGM was preceded by the association’s second annual lecture, which focused on the theme, “Credible Elections and National Security in Nigeria.” The event brought together prominent voices in governance and civil society, including electoral expert Mike Igini, who delivered the keynote address.

Other contributors at the lecture included Okey Ikechukwu, Oluwafunmilayo Para-Mallam, Jibrin Ibrahim and Samson Itodo. Collectively, they underscored the vital link between credible elections and national stability, stressing that transparent, free and fair electoral processes are essential to safeguarding Nigeria’s security architecture.

Participants also highlighted the urgency of implementing practical reforms and fostering sustained collaboration among stakeholders, particularly as the country prepares for the 2027 general elections.

In his acceptance remarks, Ejiofor expressed gratitude to members for renewing their confidence in his leadership. He pledged to deepen the association’s role in advancing national security conversations and policy engagement.

“I am grateful for the trust placed in me by members of this association, and I remain committed to serving with renewed dedication and efficiency,” he said.

He further reaffirmed AANISS’ commitment to promoting informed dialogue and professional collaboration on critical security issues, positioning the association as a key contributor to Nigeria’s evolving security landscape.
