The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has reaffirmed former Senate President, David Mark, as Chairman of its National Working Committee (NWC), amid strong calls by party leaders for unity and the emergence of a widely acceptable presidential candidate.

The decision was ratified at the party’s national convention, where stakeholders described Mark’s leadership as critical to stabilising and repositioning the party for national relevance.

Speaking after his reaffirmation, Mark expressed appreciation to party members and underscored the importance of collective effort.

“This is a moment for consolidation. We must put aside personal interests and work together to build a party that Nigerians can trust,” he said.

He added that discipline, inclusiveness, and a shared vision would be central to the ADC’s growth.

The convention also featured strong interventions from leading political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi, and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, all of whom stressed the urgency of unity within the party.

Atiku Abubakar emphasised the need for cohesion as a foundation for electoral success.

“Unity is not optional; it is the only path to victory. If we must offer Nigerians a credible alternative, we must stand together as one,” he stated.

On his part, Amaechi highlighted the importance of strategic candidate selection.

“What we need is a candidate that Nigerians across board can believe in—someone with the capacity, courage, and competence to lead,” he said.

Similarly, Peter Obi called for sacrifice and national interest above personal ambition.

“The time has come for us to think beyond ourselves. Nigeria needs leadership that is competent, compassionate, and committed to the people,” he noted.

The leaders collectively agreed that the ADC must prioritise the emergence of a presidential candidate with broad national appeal—one capable of inspiring confidence across ethnic, religious, and political divides.

The convention drew delegates from across the country and reinforced the party’s commitment to internal democracy, strategic alliances, and a renewed vision for governance.

Political observers believe the ADC’s renewed focus on unity and consensus-building could significantly shape its prospects as political realignments continue ahead of future elections.
