Senate Confirms Tegbe, Enikanolaiye as Ministers, Advances Five Bills

The Nigerian Senate has confirmed the appointments of Joseph Olasunkanmi Tegbe and Sola Enikanolaiye as ministers of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, following a formal request by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

The confirmation was reached during plenary after what lawmakers described as a rigorous screening exercise, during which both nominees responded to questions on key national issues and the demands of their proposed portfolios. The Senate unanimously endorsed their appointments.

Speaking during the session, lawmakers commended President Tinubu for appointing what they described as capable and experienced individuals to manage critical sectors of the economy.

Particular attention was given to Tegbe, the Minister-designate for Power, with senators expressing confidence in his ability to address longstanding challenges in Nigeria’s electricity sector. They noted that unstable power supply continues to hinder industrial growth and reduce the competitiveness of local industries.

The Senate stressed that improving electricity supply remains essential for national development, adding that effective leadership and sound policy direction could reposition the sector to meet both domestic and industrial demands.

In addition to the ministerial confirmations, the Senate also introduced five new bills during the plenary. The proposed legislations successfully passed their first reading and will proceed through subsequent stages of the legislative process for further consideration.

The developments underscore ongoing efforts by the National Assembly to strengthen governance and support reforms across key sectors of the Nigerian economy.
