Nigeria, Germany Deepen Bilateral Ties with Renewed Focus on Trade, Energy Investment
The Federal Government has reaffirmed its commitment to implementing the outcomes of the 2025 Nigeria-Germany Bi-national Commission, as both countries move to strengthen cooperation in trade, investment, energy and other strategic sectors.
The commitment was made during bilateral talks in Abuja between Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, and Germany’s Foreign Minister, Johann Wadephul, aimed at expanding economic collaboration and reinforcing the longstanding partnership between the two nations.
Speaking during the meeting, Ambassador Odumegwu-Ojukwu described the visit as another important milestone in Nigeria-Germany relations, noting that the Bi-national Commission provides a structured platform for reviewing progress, resolving outstanding issues and identifying new areas of mutual interest.
She reaffirmed Nigeria’s determination to fully implement the resolutions reached during the 2025 Commission meeting in line with the evolving priorities of both countries.
On his part, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul disclosed that both governments had reached new agreements covering critical sectors, including critical raw materials, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals and biometric technology.
According to him, the agreements are expected to inject fresh momentum into bilateral relations while creating new opportunities for economic cooperation, technology transfer and sustainable development.
The Federal Government also reiterated its commitment to strengthening collaboration with Germany in migration management, vocational education, security cooperation and climate action.
Nigeria expressed optimism that increased German investment would support the implementation of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s economic reform agenda, improve the country’s investment climate and contribute to sustainable economic growth.
The renewed engagement underscores the shared commitment of Nigeria and Germany to building stronger economic and strategic partnerships that will promote innovation, investment and inclusive development for the benefit of both countries.
