EFCC Arraigns Man in Maiduguri Over Alleged ₦4.5m Job Scam

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Maiduguri Zonal Directorate, has arraigned one Gambomi Muhammed before Justice Aisha Kumaliya of the Borno State High Court sitting in Maiduguri over an alleged employment scam involving ₦4.5 million.

The defendant was arraigned on Tuesday, May 4, 2026, on a 10-count charge bordering on obtaining money by false pretence.

According to the EFCC, Muhammed allegedly collected a total of ₦4,500,000 from several individuals between June 2022 and February 2023 under the pretext of securing employment for them in the Nigerian Correctional Service.

One of the charges stated that the defendant obtained money from victims, including Musa Yusuf, Kamilu Abubakar, Daniel Kwatri Tizhe, Mustapha Adamu, Yakubu Audu, Kadir Abdullahi, Yakubu John, and Cosmas Peter, while falsely claiming he could facilitate their recruitment into the Correctional Service.

The anti-graft agency said the representation was false and constituted an offence under the Advance Fee Fraud and Other Fraud Related Offences Act, 2006.

The defendant pleaded not guilty to all charges.

Following his plea, prosecution counsel, S.O. Saka, requested a trial date and urged the court to remand the defendant in a correctional facility pending trial.

Justice Kumaliya subsequently adjourned the matter until May 8, 2026, for commencement of hearing and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Maiduguri Maximum Correctional Facility.

The EFCC alleged that the defendant diverted the funds for personal use after falsely promising the victims employment opportunities.
