Vice President Kashim Shettima has assured the Institute of Chartered Secretaries and Administrators of Nigeria (ICSAN) of the federal government’s support in fast-tracking the passage of its amendment bill currently before the National Assembly.
The proposed bill seeks to change the institute’s name to better reflect modern governance practices and broaden its mandate beyond traditional secretarial duties.
The Vice President gave the assurance on Friday when a delegation from ICSAN, led by its 30th President and Chairman of the Governing Council, Uto Ukpanah, paid him a courtesy visit at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
Congratulating the institute on its 60th anniversary, Shettima described the milestone as a celebration of professionalism, integrity, and institutional excellence.
“You have earned it, and the nation is better for the work you have done. You are truly a consequential organization,” the Vice President said.
Speaking on the proposed Chartered Governance Institute of Nigeria (CGIN) Bill, Shettima pledged that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would engage key stakeholders to ensure the amendment bill is passed.
“Collectively, we will pull out all the plugs and reach out to all the major stakeholders to ensure that we fast-track the passage of the amendment bill so that you can operate at a much higher pedestal than you are now,” he stated.
The Vice President also encouraged the institute to explore income-generating ventures alongside plans for its proposed corporate headquarters project in Lagos.
He assured the delegation of the administration’s support, noting that the expectations on the institute would increase once it transitions into a chartered governance institute.
Earlier, Ukpanah said ICSAN has spent six decades promoting governance standards in both the public and private sectors in Nigeria.
She informed the Vice President about the institute’s 60th anniversary event scheduled for June 26, 2026, while also appealing for support toward the passage of the amendment bill and the development of its building project in Lagos.
According to her, the proposed reforms are necessary to align the institute with global governance practices and evolving professional standards.
