A former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has picked the governorship nomination form of the African Democratic Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Malami disclosed this in a statement shared on his social media handles over the weekend, officially confirming his entry into the governorship race.
According to the former minister, worsening insecurity, poverty, economic hardship, poor healthcare delivery, and declining educational standards in Kebbi State informed his decision to join the contest.
He alleged that Kebbi State is currently facing one of the most severe humanitarian and governance crises in the country, citing growing concerns over out-of-school children, multidimensional poverty, maternal mortality, malnutrition, and insecurity.
Malami also expressed concern about the condition of the healthcare sector in the state, noting that maternal mortality remains high while many rural communities still lack access to adequate antenatal and healthcare services.
The former AGF stated that his decision to contest was driven by a desire to provide leadership focused on improving governance, security, healthcare, education, and economic opportunities for residents of the state.
His declaration is expected to further shape the political landscape in Kebbi State ahead of the 2027 governorship elections.
