CBN Governor Receives 2026 Central Bank of the Year Award in London

The Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Olayemi Cardoso, has formally received the prestigious 2026 Central Banking Central Bank of the Year Award, describing the recognition as a testament to the collective efforts of the institution’s leadership and workforce in advancing economic stability and institutional reforms.

The award was presented on Wednesday, June 2026, in London, recognising the CBN’s ongoing efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s economic foundation through policy reforms, institutional resilience, and improved governance.

Speaking during the ceremony, Cardoso dedicated the award to the Board, Management, and Staff of the Central Bank of Nigeria, noting that the achievement reflects their commitment to professionalism, integrity, and the successful implementation of reforms aimed at restoring confidence in the nation’s financial system.

He stated that the recognition belongs to the numerous professionals within the apex bank whose contributions often occur behind the scenes but have played a significant role in strengthening the institution and enhancing confidence in Nigeria’s economy.

According to the CBN Governor, the bank’s reform agenda has remained focused on restoring confidence, improving policy credibility, strengthening institutional resilience, and laying a solid foundation for sustainable economic growth.

Cardoso noted that while progress has been made, the journey toward long-term economic transformation remains ongoing. He expressed optimism about the growing confidence in various sectors of the economy and stressed the importance of sustaining the momentum of reforms.

The Governor also acknowledged the contributions of the Federal Government, market participants, development partners, and Nigerians whose resilience and confidence have supported the country’s economic recovery efforts.

He reaffirmed the Central Bank’s commitment to preserving public trust, safeguarding monetary and financial stability, and carrying out its mandate with professionalism, accountability, and integrity.
