China Sets New Global Record with More Than 100 Gigawatts of Wind Power Added in One Year
China has achieved a historic milestone in renewable energy development, becoming the first country to install more than 100 gigawatts of new wind power capacity within a single year.
The achievement further strengthens China’s position as the world’s leading wind energy producer and highlights its growing influence in the global transition toward cleaner energy sources.
Industry reports indicate that China accounted for approximately 77 per cent of the global market for newly installed wind turbines in 2025, extending a dominance that has steadily increased over recent years.
By the end of 2025, China’s cumulative installed wind power capacity had surpassed 691 gigawatts, making it by far the largest wind energy market in the world. The figure is more than four times the installed wind capacity of the United States, the world’s second-largest economy.
Energy analysts say the scale of China’s investment in wind power reflects its broader strategy of expanding renewable energy generation while reducing dependence on fossil fuels and strengthening long-term energy security.
According to data from the World Wind Energy Association, wind energy now contributes roughly 12 per cent of global electricity demand, with China’s rapid expansion playing a major role in driving that growth.
Experts note that the country’s continued investment in renewable energy infrastructure, manufacturing capacity and technological innovation has helped position it at the forefront of the global clean energy sector.
The record-breaking expansion is expected to have significant implications for international energy markets, climate goals and the future development of renewable technologies, as governments around the world seek to accelerate their own transitions to sustainable energy sources.
With wind and solar power continuing to expand rapidly, China remains a key player in shaping the future of global energy production and the worldwide effort to reduce carbon emissions.
