Trump Unveils Commemorative US Passport Design for America’s 250th Anniversary

United States President Donald Trump has unveiled a new commemorative United States passport design as part of activities marking the 250th anniversary of American independence.

Trump revealed the design on Friday through his Truth Social platform, describing it as “The U.S.A.’s New Passport, which says, ‘Welcome, but be good!’”

Images shared by the president show a sample passport page featuring a portrait of Trump seated behind the historic Resolute Desk, with the text of the original Declaration of Independence in the background and his signature displayed at the bottom of the page.

The opposite page features The Declaration of Independence, the iconic painting by American artist John Trumbull depicting the presentation of the Declaration of Independence.

According to reports, the image used in the commemorative passport appears to be based on Trump’s portrait displayed at the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery, differing from earlier passport artwork released by the U.S. State Department.

The White House later shared the same design on its official social media account, describing it as a “New U.S. Passport to Commemorate America’s 250th.”

While questions remain about whether the image represents the final official design, the White House referred inquiries to the United States Department of State, which has yet to issue further clarification.

The limited-edition passport was first announced in April as part of celebrations for the United States’ semiquincentennial, marking 250 years since the country’s founding in 1776. Officials said the commemorative version would feature custom artwork and enhanced imagery across the passport’s covers and interior pages.

Earlier information released by the State Department indicated that the commemorative passport would initially be issued by the Washington Passport Agency to applicants renewing their passports in person, while online applicants and those renewing through other agencies would continue to receive the standard passport design.

The current U.S. passport features artwork by Percy Moran depicting Francis Scott Key after the bombardment of Battle of Fort McHenry, alongside lines from “The Star-Spangled Banner.”

The unveiling of the commemorative passport forms part of a broader series of events and initiatives planned to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary in 2026.
