Cardi B Speaks Out Against School Bullying Following Death of Ghanaian Teenager in New York

American rapper Cardi B has spoken out against bullying in New York schools following the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Ghanaian teenager Javits Frimpong in the Bronx.

In a lengthy live video, the rapper described bullying as a serious problem in New York schools, saying it can begin as early as first grade. She warned that persistent harassment can leave vulnerable children feeling unsafe and push some towards joining gangs for protection.

Cardi B also raised concerns about the treatment of immigrant children, particularly those from Africa and the Caribbean. She claimed that some foreign-born students are targeted because of their accents, backgrounds and unfamiliarity with American culture.

She identified two types of bullies: children whose behaviour may be influenced by difficult situations at home, and those whose parents continue to defend them despite repeated complaints from teachers.

The rapper urged parents to take bullying seriously, teach their children kindness and hold them accountable rather than defend them when they mistreat others.

Her comments followed the death of Javits, who moved from Ghana to live with his father in New York about a year ago. The teenager was shot while on his way to school near Crotona Park on October 29.

Javits’ father had alleged that the shooting might be connected to bullying, saying two students had reportedly been suspended for bullying his son just three days before the incident. However, the alleged connection between the bullying and the shooting has not been established.

Cardi B also questioned why anyone would target a child who had done nothing to them, expressing concern over the hostility young people face in some communities.

She concluded by saying she would not want to raise her children in a New York City neighbourhood because of the bullying and hostility she believes children experience there.
