Former Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen Tukur Yusufu Buratai (Rtd), CFR, has extended a warm and heartfelt tribute to Vice President Kashim Shettima, GCON, as he marks his 60th birthday, lauding his humility, courage, and unwavering commitment to national service.

In a personal message addressed to the Vice President on Wednesday, Gen. Buratai described Shettima as a rare beacon of simplicity in public life, noting that his leadership is defined not by the grandeur of office but by the quiet dignity of service to the Nigerian people.

“Your Excellency walks among the people, not above them,” Gen. Buratai stated. “In doing so, you have earned a place in our hearts that no title can confer.”

The former Army Chief commended the Vice President for his steadfast courage, particularly his resolve in confronting national challenges and his unwavering loyalty in supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. He described their partnership as a source of hope and stability for the nation.

Gen. Buratai also highlighted the Vice President’s deep empathy and outreach to the vulnerable and marginalized, affirming that his compassion is genuine and not merely a political tool. He further praised Shettima’s resourcefulness and statesmanship, noting his ability to turn obstacles into opportunities in the service of the country.

The tribute aligns with the Vice President’s recent call for prayers and charitable acts in lieu of elaborate birthday celebrations. Gen. Buratai echoed this sentiment, urging Nigerians to honour the occasion by supporting the less privileged and praying for the continued peace and progress of the nation.

“As you celebrate this significant milestone, my family, friends, and associates join me in praying that Almighty Allah continues to bless you with robust health, boundless wisdom, and the strength to serve our great nation for many more years,” he said.

“Congratulations, Your Excellency. May this new decade bring you greater fulfilment and the enduring satisfaction of a life well-lived in service to humanity.”
