A baby rabbit named Biran has captured widespread attention online because of his unusual appearance, with many saying he looks more like a wise old kung fu master than a newborn bunny.
Biran was born to two chinchilla rabbits, both known for their thick, soft coats. However, he inherited a rare recessive gene for hairlessness from both parents, leaving him with only small patches of fur across most of his body.
Experts explain that all rabbits are born hairless and blind, typically developing their first coat within one to two weeks. However, rabbits like Biran that inherit the hairless gene from both parents remain largely bald well beyond the normal growth period.
The rare genetic trait is more commonly associated with rex-coated rabbit breeds and can make affected rabbits more susceptible to skin problems and infections during their early weeks of life, requiring extra care.
With his wrinkled skin, oversized ears and small tuft of fur on his chin, Biran’s distinctive look has charmed animal lovers around the world, earning comparisons to an elderly monk or martial arts master.
Despite his unusual appearance, Biran continues to grow under close care and has become a reminder of the fascinating genetic variations that can occur in animals.
