Customs Officers Welcome CG Adeniyi After WCO Reappointment, Tinubu Extends Tenure

Officers and management of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) on Monday welcomed the Comptroller-General of Customs, Adewale Adeniyi, back to the Service Headquarters in Maitama, Abuja, following his return from Brussels, Belgium.

Adeniyi returned after attending the 147th and 148th Sessions of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council, where his tenure as Chairperson of the WCO Council was renewed for another year in recognition of his leadership and contributions to global customs administration.

During a reception held in his honour, members of the NCS management team also congratulated the Comptroller-General on the six-month extension of his appointment by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and presented him with a souvenir in appreciation of his leadership and efforts in transforming the Service.

Responding, Adeniyi thanked the management team and officers for their continued support, describing the gesture as a reflection of the unity and shared commitment within the Nigeria Customs Service.

“I sincerely appreciate your support. I went to Brussels believing I was going to hand over, but the outcome was different. The Council renewed my tenure for another one year, and I dedicate this achievement to the entire Nigeria Customs Service,” he said.

The Comptroller-General noted that he had travelled to Brussels expecting to conclude his tenure as Chairperson of the WCO Council but was instead re-elected by member countries for another one-year term.

The renewed international mandate, alongside the recent extension of his tenure as Comptroller-General of Customs, is expected to strengthen the Service’s ongoing reforms, deepen international cooperation and enhance trade facilitation efforts.
