Vice President Kashim Shettima has commissioned the new headquarters of the ECOWAS Commission along Airport Road in Abuja, reaffirming Nigeria’s commitment to regional integration and sustainable development across West Africa.
Shettima, who represented President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the ceremony, described the project as a significant milestone for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and a symbol of the region’s shared vision for growth and cooperation.
The Vice President reiterated the Federal Government’s commitment to supporting ECOWAS in promoting economic integration, peace, security and sustainable development among member states.
The ECOWAS Commission serves as one of the principal institutions of the regional bloc and is responsible for implementing community policies, coordinating programmes and executing development projects across member countries.
Its activities cover key sectors, including regional road infrastructure, telecommunications, agriculture, energy and water resources development, aimed at strengthening economic cooperation and improving the lives of citizens across West Africa.
The commissioning of the new headquarters is expected to enhance the Commission’s operational capacity and further support its mandate of advancing regional integration and development.
The ceremony was attended by senior government officials, ECOWAS leaders and other dignitaries from across the region, who described the project as another milestone in strengthening regional institutions and cooperation.
