Kaduna Begins ₦34bn Flood, Gully Erosion Control Project, Pays Over ₦2bn Compensation

Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has flagged off the ₦34 billion Rigasa/Tudun Wada Flood and Gully Erosion Control Project, while also presenting over ₦2 billion in compensation to persons affected by the project.

Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, the governor said the initiative demonstrates his administration’s commitment to tackling environmental degradation, flooding and gully erosion, while ensuring that affected residents are treated with fairness and dignity.

According to him, the project, which will cover about 17 kilometres, is designed to provide a long-term solution to the recurring flooding and erosion that have affected the Rigasa and Tudun Wada communities for decades.

Governor Uba Sani disclosed that more than 1,200 households affected by the project are being supported through a Resettlement Action Plan to ensure that development does not come at the expense of citizens’ welfare.

He said the project is expected to be completed within 18 months and will significantly reduce flood risks, stabilise erosion-prone areas, protect homes and public infrastructure, preserve livelihoods and improve climate resilience.

The governor added that the intervention is expected to directly and indirectly benefit more than two million people, while contributing to environmental sustainability and inclusive development across Kaduna State.

He thanked the affected communities for their cooperation and urged the contractors handling the project to maintain high standards of professionalism, quality and accountability throughout its execution.

Governor Uba Sani reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to building a safer, greener and more resilient Kaduna State through people-centred infrastructure development.
