The Executive Vice Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure (NASENI), Khalil Suleiman Halilu, has reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare sector through local manufacturing of rapid diagnostic test kits.
Halilu made the remarks while leading the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, Tanimu Yakubu, on a tour of the NASENI–Troment Diagnostics Factory.
According to him, the facility is designed to reduce Nigeria’s reliance on imported rapid diagnostic test kits and has the capacity to meet up to 80 per cent of the country’s demand.
He stated that the factory produces rapid diagnostic kits certified by the World Health Organization, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control and the International Organization for Standardization, demonstrating the quality and global standard of its products.
Halilu also noted that the facility recently received commendation from the Harvard University-led Science of Defeating Malaria team during a visit to the factory.
He reiterated that since assuming office, his vision has been to ensure that every Nigerian household uses at least one product proudly manufactured by NASENI.
According to him, more products bearing the inscription “Made in Nigeria, Made by NASENI” will soon be available in homes across the country, stressing that industrialisation is only meaningful when it improves the daily lives of Nigerians and creates opportunities for economic growth.
