NBA President Commends Gov. Buni for Sponsoring Over 700 Law Students in Yobe
President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Mazi Afam Osigwe, SAN, has commended Yobe State Governor, Mai Mala Buni, for his administration’s sustained support to law students and commitment to strengthening the legal profession in the state.
Osigwe gave the commendation on Monday during a courtesy visit to Governor Buni at the Government House, Damaturu.
The NBA President said available records showed that the Yobe State Government had sponsored more than 700 law students studying in various universities and the Nigerian Law School, describing the gesture as a remarkable investment in human capital development.
“Available records indicate that your administration has sponsored over 700 law students. That is indeed a commendable effort and a significant contribution to the future of the legal profession,” Osigwe said.
He also applauded the developmental strides recorded by the Buni administration in other sectors, noting that the state had remained focused on development despite years of security challenges.
According to him, the progress recorded reflects the government’s determination to rebuild the state and improve the lives of its citizens.
Responding, Governor Buni reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting the rule of law and supporting institutions that advance justice, peace and security.
He stressed that the judiciary remains the last hope of the common man, adding that his government would continue to strengthen legal institutions and provide the necessary support for the effective administration of justice.
“It is often said that the judiciary is the last hope of the common man. Our administration will continue to support every institution and instrument that promotes justice, peace and security across Yobe State,” the governor said.
Governor Buni also appreciated the NBA President for the visit, describing it as a demonstration of inclusiveness and solidarity with legal practitioners in the state.
“Your visit today gives us a true sense of belonging, and I sincerely appreciate it,” he added.
Earlier, the Chairman of the NBA Yobe State Branch, Barrister Khaliel, also lauded Governor Buni for prioritising the education of law students, noting that the scholarship initiative has enabled many young people to pursue legal careers despite prevailing economic challenges.
He said the governor’s intervention has ensured that financial constraints do not prevent qualified students from achieving their academic and professional aspirations.
