Troops Foil Terrorist Attack on Zamfara Base, Rescue Nine Abducted Civilians
Troops of Sector 2, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have successfully repelled an attempted terrorist infiltration of the Forward Operating Base (FOB) in Kasuwan Daji, Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of Zamfara State, rescuing nine abducted civilians in the process.
The attack occurred at about 1:40 a.m. on Sunday, August 2, 2026, when the terrorists attempted to exploit the cover of darkness to breach the military facility.
According to the Nigerian Army, troops quickly detected the hostile movement and responded with coordinated and overwhelming firepower, forcing the attackers to abandon their mission and retreat in disarray.
Following the initial engagement, reinforcements were deployed and troops launched a hot pursuit of the fleeing terrorists. During the operation, the troops successfully rescued nine civilians who had been abducted from surrounding communities during the attack.
The Army, however, confirmed that one Army officer and one police officer were killed during the fierce exchange of fire.
Two soldiers also sustained gunshot wounds and were immediately evacuated by air for advanced medical treatment. The wounded personnel are reported to be in stable condition.
Troops have since secured and dominated the area and are conducting further exploitation operations to assess the extent of the terrorists’ casualties and ensure the safety of surrounding communities.
The Nigerian Army also clarified reports circulating on social media claiming that six security personnel were killed in the attack, describing the information as inaccurate. The Army confirmed that one soldier and one police officer paid the supreme price during the incident.
The successful defence of the base represents another setback for terrorist elements operating in the North-West and highlights the readiness of security forces to respond decisively to threats against military positions and civilian communities.
