The Minister of Arts, Culture, Tourism and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to preserving Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage and strengthening partnerships with traditional institutions across the country.
Musawa stated this during a courtesy visit to His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse III, CFR, the Olu of Warri, where she held discussions with the monarch ahead of the 5th Coronation Anniversary of the Warri Kingdom.
The Minister described the engagement as an opportunity to strengthen collaboration between the Federal Government and the Warri Kingdom in preserving and promoting the kingdom’s rich historical and cultural heritage.
She emphasised the important role of traditional institutions as custodians of Nigeria’s history, identity and cultural wealth, noting that their contributions remain vital to the preservation of the nation’s diverse heritage.
During the meeting, Musawa and the Olu of Warri explored strategic areas of collaboration aimed at protecting the kingdom’s heritage assets while creating new opportunities in tourism development, youth empowerment, investment, cultural preservation and international visibility.
The Minister expressed optimism that stronger collaboration with the Warri Kingdom would help unlock the economic potential of its cultural assets and position the kingdom as a destination of interest for tourists, investors and cultural enthusiasts from Nigeria and around the world.
She also pledged her readiness to work with the traditional institution to ensure that the history, traditions and cultural legacy of the Warri Kingdom are preserved for future generations.
According to her, Nigeria’s cultural heritage represents not only a reflection of its past but also an important resource for building a vibrant tourism and creative economy capable of creating jobs, empowering young people and attracting investment.
Musawa expressed confidence that the partnership would contribute to showcasing the remarkable heritage of the Warri Kingdom while strengthening Nigeria’s position as a leading destination for cultural tourism.
The visit also provided an opportunity to discuss preparations for the Olu of Warri’s forthcoming 5th Coronation Anniversary, with both sides reaffirming their shared commitment to celebrating and promoting the kingdom’s enduring cultural identity.
The Minister said she looked forward to deepening the partnership with the Warri Kingdom and ensuring that its remarkable history and cultural legacy continue to inspire generations while attracting greater global attention to Nigeria.
