Northeast Star Magazine to honour Dr Goje with General Excellence Award in Youth Leadership and Peacebuilding

The Management and Editorial Board of Northeast Star Magazine is set to honour Dr Mohammed Goje with its 2021 General Excellence Award in Youth Leadership and Peacebuilding.

This was disclosed by Dr Abubakar Mohammed, Publisher, Northeast Star Magazine. He said the decision was reached at the 56th Editorial Board meeting which took place on the 17th of August in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Dr Goje is an Epidemiologist and a Humanitarian (Analyst). He is a Fellow of the Royal Society for Public Health, UK. He has a Master’s of Science degree in Epidemiology and Biostatistics

Dr Goje has diverse work experience which includes programme planning and coordination, proposal and work plan development, advocacy, vaccines and immunization, capacity building, project coordination, supervision, data collection and analysis (both qualitative and quantitative), epidemiological activities, non-communicable disease research, technical support to malaria projects, reproductive health, psycho-social support and gender-based violence interventions in emergencies.

He is currently the Executive Secretary of Yobe State Emergency Management Agency, where he leads the state’s emergency response and post-conflict recovery plan since 2019. He spearheaded the MGF foundation in 2015, a foundation that supports post-conflict communities by identifying students from poor backgrounds and sponsoring them up to the university level. Currently, 10 have graduated from Yobe State University, all from Gujba and another 20 are in the 300 level. This is in addition to free medical outreach and eye surgery he facilitated for over 30,000 persons in 2017 when the Nigerian army reclaimed Buni Yadi, an erstwhile Boko Haram enclave.

Dr Goje has worked previously as a programme consultant with ActionAid Nigeria, supporting the RH project in Yobe State, he worked as State Analyst-Vaccines, supporting Yobe State Primary Health Care on the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation (BMGF)/Dangote Routine Immunization Project in Yobe State.

Dr Goje is married with five children, one of whom he adopted in Rann Kala Balge IDP Camp after she lost her father to a bomb blast and her mother died during delivery.

The award presentation will take place on the 21st of October, 2021 at the Conference Hall, American University of Nigeria, Yola, Adamawa State.
