Meet Mustapha Shettima, Northeast Star’s Humanitarian of the Year 2021

The Management and Editorial Board of the Northeast Star Magazine has disclosed that it will confer its 2021 Humanitarian of the Year award on Mustapha Shettima, an International Development Practitioner with over 12years of programming experience in Governance, Peacebuilding, Prevention/Countering Violent Extremism, Gender and Conflict Sensitivity, Livelihoods, and Organizational Development.

According to Dr Abubakar Mohammed, Publisher of Northeast Star Magazine, the decision to honour Shettima with the award was reached at the 56th Editorial Board meeting which took place on the 17th of August in Maiduguri, Borno State.

Shettima specializes in Community Development, Strategic Planning, Capacity-building, Monitoring & Evaluation, Grants and Knowledge Management. His work in the Non-Profit sector has afforded him the opportunity of garnering professional experience in different parts of Nigeria particularly in his home region of the Northeast which is worse affected by violent conflicts.

He is currently the Program Manager with Creative Associate International managing the USAID-funded Nigeria Northeast Connection Program – which aims to strengthen community resilience against violent extremists’ infiltration and conflict in Northeast communities. Having held the previous position as Project Manager with International Alert managing the US Embassy funded Trans-Saharan Counter-Terrorism Partnership Project in the Northeast, as well as Regional Programme Officer with the British Council, managed Nigeria Stability and Reconciliation Program (NSRP) including the Managing Conflict in Northeast Nigeria Program (MCN), Shettima continues to touch the lives of many vulnerable communities through his passionate drive for humanitarian and developmental projects.

He is an Alumni of the prestigious International Visitors Leadership Program (IVLP) in Washington DC, USA and holds a Master of Business Administration from the University of Maiduguri; a Bachelor of Science Degree in Physics at the same University; with several certifications; including Project Management Professional and Project in Controlled Environment.

The award presentation will take place on the 21st of October, 2021 at the Conference Hall, American University of Nigeria, Yola, Adamawa State.
