Tinubu Rules Out Return of Fuel Subsidy, Reaffirms FG’s Position

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reaffirmed his administration’s decision not to reintroduce fuel subsidy, insisting that Nigeria will not return to the policy.

The President made the position known while speaking at an event, where he suggested that reversing the subsidy removal policy would require a change in the country’s political leadership.

Tinubu referenced key political officeholders, including state governors and the Senate President, while emphasising his administration’s commitment to sustaining the policy.

He said, “Nigeria will never go back to subsidy, unless there’s no uncommon governor, unless there’s no uncommon Senate President, unless there’s no lawmaking game.”

The President also drew attention to the audience’s reaction during his remarks, asking, “Look at these people. You want to laugh?”

His comments reaffirm his administration’s stance on fuel subsidy removal, a major economic policy introduced in May 2023.
