Lagos Taskforce team beat-up, strips The Guardian reporter
A reporter with The Guardian Newspaper, Mr Eniola Daniel was yesterday (Sunday) beaten, stripped and his phone destroyed by the Lagos Taskforce team led by Commander Shola Jejeloye.
The Lagos Taskforce had gathered at the Ladipo Auto Spare Parts Market, along Apapa-Oshodi expressway at the early hours on Sunday to destroy shops along the road, and in the process, molested two onlookers.
Daniel said he got a call from the Guardian security Supervisor, Mr Bello that the Lagos Taskforce were burning tyres and destroying shops along the road, and he got to the scene at about 10.am and started videoing the raging fire set on the highway but, in less than three minutes, a man on plain uniform suddenly slapped him continuously from behind, while other security men bearing arms ran to support him, punched him and dragged him into a stationed Black Maria.
He said while the beating was going on, he brought out his Identity Card and showed the police, but that did not stop them from beating him. “Even while beating me, one of the policemen called me a bastard”.
