Adesewo Unveils Two Inspiring Books, Donates Copies to 50 FCT Schools

By Matthew Eloyi

A theatre practitioner and Editor-in-Chief of OurNigeria News Magazine, Om’Oba Jerry Adesewo, has unveiled two new books: “The Years of ME” and “The Weight of Becoming”,  at a public presentation attended by prominent literary and cultural figures.

At the event on Thursday in Abuja, the Chairman of the Occasion, Jerry Alagbaoso, who was represented by former President of the Association of Nigerian Authors (ANA), Denja Abdullahi, described Adesewo as a talented and experienced writer with deep roots in journalism, theatre and the creative arts.

According to Abdullahi, the author is a resourceful individual, a team player and a fast learner whose contributions to literature and theatre continue to inspire others.

The books were reviewed by literary scholar Oko Owoicho Africa, who commended Adesewo for his contributions to Nigeria’s literary and theatre professions.

Reviewing The Years of ME, Owoicho described the book as a reflective work that explores the philosophy of values and the dynamics of personal growth. He noted that the book reminds readers that failure is often an inevitable companion on the journey of becoming.

“The most beautiful part of the story is the author’s honesty in acknowledging that at some point in life’s journey, one encounters failure,” he said, adding that the narrative reflects Adesewo’s trajectory as a journalist, thespian and theatre administrator. According to him, the book offers valuable life lessons, particularly for younger generations.

On the second book, The Weight of Becoming, a collection of poetry, the reviewer said the work emphasizes the importance of the journey of life. He added that the poems deliver powerful messages without sounding overly preachy.

Speaking with journalists at the event, Adesewo said the books were inspired by his passion for writing and his desire to share life experiences with others.

He revealed that the ideas behind the works began about 13 years ago, as he sought to document his life journey, including both failures and successes.

“The version of me today is different from the version of me years ago,” he said, explaining that the books reflect lessons learned along the path of personal growth.

Adesewo also announced that 10 copies of each of the books would be donated to 50 schools across the Federal Capital Territory to encourage reading among students.

Among dignitaries present at the event was the founder of Baze University and former senator representing Kaduna North Senatorial District, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, alongside other notable guests from the literary and cultural community.
