Air Marshal Hasan Abubakar, Chief of the Air Staff (CAS), emphasized the urgent need for concerted efforts to eliminate criminal elements from the region.
During a meeting with Governor Sheriff Oborevwori at the Government House in Asaba, Abubakar highlighted the importance of effective civil-military cooperation to ensure a peaceful and secure environment conducive to socio-economic development.
Air Marshal Abubakar, in a press statement released by Air Vice Marshal Edward Gabkwet, Director of Public Relations and Information for the Nigerian Air Force, underscored that without peace, achieving meaningful development would be challenging and detrimental to the livelihoods of ordinary citizens.
He called on the residents of Delta State to continue their support for security agencies in their efforts to maintain order and safety.
Expressing gratitude to Governor Oborevwori, Abubakar commended the Governor’s unwavering support for the Armed Forces, particularly the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).
He praised the Governor’s focus on security over the past year, which has fostered a more conducive environment for sustained growth and development in the state.
A notable highlight of the visit was the Governor’s allocation of 66.6 hectares of land in Osubi to the NAF for the development of a new base, marking a significant milestone in Delta State’s relationship with the NAF.
Governor Oborevwori, in response, lauded the NAF’s commitment to combating insecurity and acknowledged the strong partnership between Delta State and the Air Force.
He assured that the state government would soon begin constructing a road to the newly allocated land, further demonstrating his administration’s dedication to the project’s success.
The Governor announced plans to allocate more land for a Post-Service Housing Scheme for retiring NAF personnel.
He also condemned the tragic incident in March 2024, which led to the loss of Nigerian Army personnel in Okuama Village, and reiterated his commitment to supporting security initiatives in the state.
The visit concluded with Governor Oborevwori presenting the Certificate of Occupancy for the 66.6 hectares of land to Air Marshal Abubakar, symbolizing a strengthened partnership aimed at enhancing security and development in Delta State.
