Army frees abducted victim in Enugu

Troops from the 103 Battalion (Rear) of the 82 Division Nigerian Army, currently on Operation UDO KA II, rescued a kidnap victim, Dr Maxwell Ayim, along Road Four Corner-Agbogwe in Enugu State’s Udi Local Government Area.

According to a statement published on Friday by Lieutenant Colonel Jonah Unuakhalu, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 82 Division, Nigerian Army, the rescue came after a fire battle between the army and the terrorists.

Unuakhalu stated that the troops stationed at the Udi checkpoint received a distress call on Thursday regarding the assailants’ activities. He claimed that the forces responded quickly to the call, resulting in a gunfight between the military officers and the kidnappers.

The statement reads, “The rescue operation was conducted when troops deployed at the Udi checkpoint received a distress call on the incident. On arrival, troops came in contact with the kidnappers.

“However, due to troops’ superior fire, members of the criminal gang fled in disarray with gunshot wounds into the nearby bushes.

“The gallant troops during further exploitation of the gang’s withdrawal route found the victim abandoned. Troops proceeded to rescue the victim. He has since been reunited with his family after preliminary medical checks”.

According to the statement, the Joint Task Force Operation UDO KA II also urged law-abiding and good inhabitants of the state and the Southeast area in general to continue giving timely, credible, and trustworthy intelligence to aid security operatives in combating insecurity in the region.
