The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has reaffirmed the Nigerian Army’s commitment to strengthening strategic partnerships with the private sector to enhance personnel welfare, institutional resilience and operational effectiveness in support of national security.
The COAS stated this on Thursday, July 30, 2026, when he received a delegation from Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank), led by its Executive Director, Mr Ahmed Liman, during a courtesy visit to Army Headquarters in Abuja.
Lieutenant General Shaibu described GTBank as a reliable institutional partner whose innovative financial services have continued to support the Nigerian Army’s transformation efforts through improved financial inclusion, administrative efficiency and personnel welfare.
He noted that the recent presidential approval for increased recruitment and the ongoing expansion of the Nigerian Army require a responsive and technology-driven banking system capable of providing seamless financial services to personnel across formations and locations nationwide.
The COAS commended GTBank’s achievements in digital banking and expressed confidence that a stronger partnership would further improve financial service delivery while contributing to the Army’s operational readiness.
COAS Seeks Greater Support for Military Families
In line with the Nigerian Army’s Soldier First welfare philosophy, General Shaibu urged GTBank to expand its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives to cover wounded-in-action personnel, widows and orphans of fallen heroes.
He also requested the deployment of Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) to newly established and remote military barracks to improve troops’ access to banking services, reduce unnecessary movement of personnel and enhance operational responsiveness.
Earlier, GTBank Executive Director, Mr Ahmed Liman, commended the Nigerian Army for its continued commitment to defending Nigeria’s sovereignty and protecting the lives and property of citizens.
Liman reaffirmed the bank’s readiness to deepen its partnership with the Army by providing tailored financial solutions to meet its operational and administrative requirements, while ensuring compliance with the Treasury Single Account (TSA) policy.
GTBank Unveils Specialised Military Banking Solutions
The GTBank executive highlighted the bank’s specialised services for government institutions, including dedicated trade desks for processing Letters of Credit (LCs) to support defence procurement, secure digital platforms for salary administration and contractor payments, as well as institutional funds management solutions.
He also presented the bank’s military-focused financial products, including the GT Patriot Account, which offers waived banking charges and concessionary lending rates to military personnel.
Liman further highlighted GT Pensions Management services designed to optimise Retirement Savings Accounts and strengthen the long-term financial security of Nigerian Army personnel.
The engagement underscored the shared commitment of the Nigerian Army and GTBank to leveraging technology, financial innovation and strategic private-sector collaboration to improve personnel welfare, strengthen institutional capacity and support the Army’s broader national security mandate.
