Army War College Nigeria Launches Internal Security Study Tour

The Army War College Nigeria (AWCN) has embarked on its Internal Security Study Tour (ISST) to Operation WHIRL PUNCH in Kaduna and Operation SAFE HAVEN in Plateau States, signifying a significant step towards bolstering the nation’s security infrastructure.

Running from March 25 to 28, 2024, the tour, themed “Comprehensive Approach to Security as an Imperative for Addressing Multi-Dimensional Security Threats for Enhanced National Security,” aims to deepen understanding of comprehensive security strategies crucial for bolstering national stability. This tour forms a vital component of the Interagency Cooperation and Coordination in Military Operations Module, constituting a pivotal aspect of the College’s curriculum.

Participants will not only observe the operational intricacies of internal security measures but also engage with the multifaceted challenges inherent in joint and interagency operations. Through direct involvement in field activities, they will grapple with the complexities of coordinating efforts across different military branches and civil authorities.

Led by Major General Ishaya Maina, the Commandant of AWCN, who serves as Exercise Director, Brigadier General Aminu Umar, the Deputy Commandant and Director of Studies, will lead Team 1, while Team 2 will be under the leadership of Brigadier General MO Edide, the Director of War and Strategy. These leaders ensure that every aspect of the tour aligns with the educational objectives set by the College.

In addition to the 75 military participants, the tour includes 42 representatives from key Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) within Nigeria, including members of the Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Immigration Service, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, and the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps.

The ISST not only represents a critical educational initiative but also underscores the commitment of the AWCN and the Chief of Army Staff to safeguarding national security through knowledge, cooperation, and preparedness. With the collective expertise of participants from diverse military and civilian backgrounds, the tour is poised to yield invaluable insights, foster enduring partnerships, and articulate measures to confront evolving security challeng.
