Bauchi 11 village women contribute over N1.2m in 18 months to be self reliance

Not less than eleven village women from Jalam and Dagauda communities of Dambam local government area of Bauchi State had under the Village Saving and loan initiative and Income generating activities have saved over N1, 295,200 within 18 months of the project to become self reliance.

The village women while recounting their testimonies to our correspondent in Dambam on Monday , commended SABEERASH FOUNDATION in collaboration with FAHIMTA WOMEN & YOUTH DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE for the intervention.

The Women confessed after the share out of the contributions they engage in various self businesses such as buying and selling of women wrappers, grains, variety of plastic rubbers, red oil, second hand furniture

As well as other income generating activities including rearing different types of animals( goats, sheep and cows for business which according to them their livelihood has improved as a result of Women’s Voice and Leadership (WVL) project of ActionAid Nigeria Funded by Global Affairs Canada.

A beneficiary Malama Aisha Adamu Jalam said the intervention was commendable and made her become self-reliant.

“After the share out I went into the business of plastics, I sold all sorts of plastics such as buckets, cups plates among others to the immediate communities.

“People troop to my house and buy those plastics, I become occupied controlling my business no idleness with me.

“That gives the opportunity to take care of my immediate needs,that of my kids and the entire family. We appreciate the foundation for the intervention,” she said.

Another beneficiary Baballiya Adamu Dambam after the share out she engaged into rearings of domestic animals and animal feeds.

“The share out boosts my business in the community which makes me relevant among and stakeholders in the community.

“I am overwhelmed with the intervention that makes me self-reliant and I am proud to sponsor my children in school,” she said.

On his part, Project Manager SABEERASH Foundation, Mr Joel Timothy explained that the project mentored the 11 beneficiary’s success story through capacity development and series of women economic empowerment programs.

He said the foundation is a non-profit making Community Based Organization that addresses overwhelming environmental issues including reproductive health, basic education, women economic empowerment, food and nutrition and SGBV.

The project was supported by ActionAid Nigeria project Funded by Global Affairs Canada intervention implemented by the foundation in Dambam and Jalam, Dagauda communities of Dambam LGA.
